EFCAM
(European Forum for Complementary and Alternative Medicine)

Die EFCAM (European Forum for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Europäisches Forum für komplementäre und alternative Medizin) wurde 2004 auf Initiative von europäischen CAM-Organisationen gegründet, um eine Dachorganisation für komplementäre und alternative Medizin (CAM) bzw. Gesundheitsfürsorge zu schaffen. Aufgabe der EFCAM ist es, die gemeinsamen Anliegen und Absichten von BehandlerInnen, PatientInnen und sonstigen NutzerInnen vom komplementären und alternativen Gesundheitsmethoden in der Europäischen Union zu vertreten. Neben CAM-Disziplinen wie Homöopathie, Phytotherapie, Anthroposophische Medizin, TCM und andere mehr ist auch die European Shiatsu Federation (ESF) in der EFCAM vertreten.

Die politische Legitimation der EFCAM beruht auf:

einer Resolution des Europäischen Parlaments (1997): "to carry out research into the safety, effectiveness, area of application and the complementary or alternative nature of all non-conventional medicines ... To encourage the development of research programmes in the field of non-conventional medicines covering the individual and holistic approach, the preventive role and the specific characteristics of the non-conventional medical disciplines" (EP Resolution A4 0075/97) ; und

einer Resolution des Council of Europe (1999): "to develop research programmes on the safety and effectiveness of these medicines" (Council of Europe Resolution 1206 1999).

Die EFCAM ist eine Plattform innerhalb der EPHA (European Public Health Alliance), der Europäischen Allianz zur Förderung der öffentlichen Gesundheit, und Sprachrohr für Non-Profit-Organisationen im Gesundheitswesen zu den entsprechenden Institutionen in der Europäischen Union - auch um die Überbetonung von wirtschaftlichen Interessen gegenüber gesundheitlichen und sozialen Anliegen auszugleichen.

Die Hauptanliegen der EFCAM (Promoting Integrating Healthcare in Europe) sind:

	create a permanent forum for the exchange of views and information,
	act as a single point of reference for the EU institutions on policy and regulatory issues relevant to CAM,
	prepare political actions to have CAM fully recognised throughout Europe

EFCAM ist als Vertretung für CAM Mitglied im Beirat des Forschungsnetzwerkes CAMBRELLA und im EU Health Policy Forum (EUHPF) und regulärer offizieller geladener Gast bei EU-Beratungen und -Events, wie z.B. AHAIP (Active and Healthy Ageing Innovation Partnership), für neue EU-Richtlinien bei chronischen Erkrankungen und bei den nächsten neuen Gesundheits- und Forschungsprogrammen.
